COVID-19 Camp Update

COVID-19 Camp Update
May 16, 2020

We have been continuously evaluating our options as new information comes out from Scheels Soccer Complex, the state of Kansas and the CDC.

Our top priority is the health and safety of our Finesse Soccer family – our campers and coaching staff. Due to COVID-19 restrictions placed on mass gatherings and our prioritizing the health and safety of your families and ours, we have made the decision to cancel both weeks of camp this summer.

Campers who have registered should have received an email on May 16 with details for refunds.  If you did not receive the email and you were registered for camp, please let us know.

We realize this is a difficult time for many in our community and we hope these refund options align with what works best for your family at this time. We are offering a full refund, a partial refund with a Finesse Soccer Summer Care Package, or you may choose to donate your refund to Harvesters.

I know this has been a hard spring for many reasons, and I feel the loss for everyone who missed their soccer seasons. As a parent, coach and player myself, this was a tough one. I know many kids, my daughter included, were looking forward to at least getting to go to camp this summer. As a small business, this pandemic has really turned our world upside down, as camp helps sustain us from year to year.

While we never would have predicted having to cancel our camp, as the situation evolved, we were constantly working up a new game plan with the hopes of being able to offer camp this summer. After the latest announcement from the Governor, too many unknowns remain as to what the timeline for safely proceeding might look like.

Our summer camp is centered around camaraderie, teamwork and of course, enhancing soccer skills. Soccer is about teamwork, contact, and skills; high fives, huddles and scrimmages. It is difficult to imagine a dynamic, fun and productive soccer camp experience under the current circumstances.

When I look back on my childhood, I remember some of the great soccer camps I attended and how they impacted me. My coach, Gags Pritchard, founded Welsh Soccer Camps which I attended for many years, a camp that still runs to this day, 25 years later. I attended a goal scoring camp with Edmond Rugova that literally changed my life. And then there was the summer camp at the University of North Carolina where I made the MVP squad at the age of 14, holding my own with college recruits at the storied program laden with National Championships. All these memories stay with me and have helped shape our camps, hopefully leaving your daughter with experiences and memories for a lifetime, too.

For players who have made our camp a summer tradition – we hope you look back at your summers with us and smile, thinking about all the fun we have. For players who haven’t been able to experience Finesse Soccer Camp yet – we can’t wait to welcome you to our camp experience next summer. We promise, it will be one to remember!

We look forward to welcoming everyone with high fives and goal scoring celebrations at Finesse Soccer Camp 2021.

Stay strong, stay safe –

Play on,
