Introducing: Player Empowerment Workshops

Introducing: Player Empowerment Workshops

In the last 5 years, our work has centered around Girl Power and inspiring girls to be brave, strong and powerful on and off the field.

This fall, we are expanding this emphasis into our newly launched Player Empowerment Workshops. We’ve heard that parents and players love our empowerment emphasis at camp and “wished it was offered year round.” With our Empowerment Workshops, athletes will have the opportunity to hear from our experienced team around a variety of topics that impact them as individuals on the sports field, as teammates and as members of society.

Our goal is to reach as many players in the area and help empower and inspire them through interactive discussions. Led by Finesse Soccer founder Carrie Fry Robinson and Licensed Professional Counselor and Finesse Soccer Director of Empowerment Bailey Sosa Wilner, these workshops are delivered in a way that resonates with players and make an immediate impact on the individual and team.

ABOUT OUR FACILITATORS

CARRIE FRY ROBINSON, FINESSE SOCCER FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
Carrie Fry Robinson played a key role in the women’s soccer revolution in Kansas City and continues to shape the future of the game as the founder of Finesse Soccer. Since founding Finesse Soccer in 2010, her perspective on soccer has evolved. Her personal mission is to keep girls in the game, which drives her desire to provide positive, fun and empowering environments for players to thrive. This includes physical training in the form of camps and clinics, as well as the mental side of training in the form of empowerment discussions and mental health awareness.

BAILEY SOSA WILNER, FINESSE SOCCER DIRECTOR OF EMPOWERMENT
Bailey Sosa Wilner is a former collegiate soccer player, passionate mental health advocate and Licensed Professional Counselor. After playing soccer and completing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Baker University, Bailey went on to earn a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri Kansas City. In addition to serving as a Counselor at Johnson County Community College, Bailey provides mental health training for student athletes of all ages. Bailey has coached for Finesse Soccer Training Academy since 2018 and leads the Finesse Empowerment programming.

RECENT TEAM WORKSHOPS

This past summer, Coach Dustin with the Kansas Rush GA 2010 team approached us to have a discussion with his players about kindness, mental toughness and anti-bullying. We designed an interactive workshop for his team that centered around those topics. The players were attentive, asked great questions and demonstrated to their coach in a follow-up session that they retained and are applying what they learned.

Nobody likes being talked at for an hour, especially kids who have been in school all day, so we made sure to layer in truly interactive moments. More pictures below.
